I’d be livid;...it’s a lot of money for a local council.
According to those Twitter feed reports & Nottingham Post the good citizens of Nottingham face cumulative losses of £34.4m; with potential liabilities approaching £60m. !

Isn't there another £59m in continuing liabilities? Have Centrica taken on this residual debt?brewerdave said:Wonder what the council tax payers in Nottingham think of £24m write off ??
Presumably the council tax payers of Nottingham will conclude that the business model of RHE was more 'Sheriff of Nottingham' than 'Robin Hood'...No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm assuming that means that they will honour the existing contracts, but, on expiry, it'll be over to BG tariffs for everyone.Gerry1 said:From the DT:Chris O’Shea, Centrica chief executive, said the deal was a "value-generating" opportunity. "We are delighted to welcome Robin Hood customers to British Gas. We are pleased to be able to offer every customer moving to British Gas a tariff which means their price will not be any higher and, importantly, they will be supplied with green electricity and have access to a range of other benefits.”No free lunch, and no free laptop

There’s a number of local councils who are probably learning that domestic energy supply is not an easy business to be in. :'(

Well many city councils have big right offs from Council Tax arrears, etc, so not sure how this is anymore outrageous.Biggus_Dickus said:brewerdave said:Wonder what the council tax payers in Nottingham think of £24m write off ??I’d be livid;...it’s a lot of money for a local council.

I’m not a Warrington resident (my parents were) but I don’t live too far away;...in Dec’19 the Council bought a 50% share-holding in Together Energy at at cost of £18m.
What would lead them invest so much money in a small Energy company set against the backdrop of so many established energy companies that have gone to the wall in recent times?...bonkers or what‽
However, apparently,... quote: “The company (Together Energy) has been built around a set of core convictions including a vision of how employers and employees should interact, developing a workplace grounded in the values of dignity and worth.”
.....so that’s alright then!

It's probably no more outrageous than tax arrears but that isn't the subject of this thread.0 -
Unfortunately this comes on top with another fiasco with a local shopping centre that has also cost the council millions, but that's another story.1
