Turning Single Skin walls into Building Regulation passed walls for a mortgage to pass.

Good Afternoon knowledgeable people of the forum. 
I need some factual help.
We are trying to buy a non standard timber framed home. However at the last minute we have been let down by the mortgage company due to the width of the walls. 
The house is a single story 1960 bungalow with some none standard walls (part of the bungalow has been extended to building regulations) .
The non standard part is timber framed built in 1961 - we are wanting to build the walls to make them the same as NHBC/Building regs however - what we are struggling getting a straight answer out of a valuer is if that would then pass on a mortgage. 
Roof has passed on survey and the original valuer has only rejected it on the width of the walls. 
However the frame would remain a 1960 timber frame with just the walls being 'bricked up' properly. 
Has anyone had any experience of this and can please pass on words of advice.

    One thing you don't mention... Does the vendor want to do all this work?

    Because, if they don't, then how are you going to afford to buy it before you can do the work to make it mortgageable...

    Replacing or altering walls on old bungalows can be done. This was recently carried out on a concrete panel one near me, where the wonderful views alone made it worthwhile, but it wasn't cheap or easy.
    I don't see how you are going to get such an extensive amount of work done prior to purchase. The vendor has probably priced it with the lack of  mortgageability in mind, so once it's done, surely it would be worth more.
  • I'm more looking for personal experiences of this work being done. 
  • External wall insulation (EWI) could be a solution. I used to work for a company who did it but can’t say we did any timber frame homes (while I was there) but lots of other styles of non traditional construction.

    Go to a mortgage broker, as you're looking at a property that is 'non standard' construction.
