Cancelling Three mbile contract

Trying to cancel a contract with Three. Tried over the phone and they asked for  account password, but they said the one given was incorrect.
The password given was the My3 password. Is there another password?
Then tried an online chat and same thing and then when they asked for postcode and  entered  it got the message " please try chat later"?????
I know Three will do just about anything to try and stop you cancelling, but do they stoop to this level?

If you're out of the minimum contract period  you can do this by text - Text 'PAC' to 65075 to leave and keep your mobile number (then give the PAC number you receive to your new provider) or Text 'STAC' to 75075 to leave and 'lose' your number
I'm sure 3 asked me to confirm some other details instead when I didn't know my password though

If you do the text. 3 will send you how much your final bill would be plus a pac code all with-in about 20mins.
I think when i did the 3 text they asked for my date of birth that was it....If you don't use the pac with-in 30 days your contract will carry on and you will have to start all over again.....Also as soon as you give the pac to another provider and it goes over your 3 contract will automatically finnish....It's so much easier to do it that way and you don't have to talk to anyone.

  • Our contract with 3 ran out in Decemebr 2014.  I carried out a srping clean of direct debits a few months ago to descover that we have been paying £26 a month ... I am distraught ... almost 6 years of not using the phone number/line.  I believe we may have had to apply for a pac code .... but in all honesty do not recall where we transferred to.  Any advice positive or negative with regards to getting money back ?  I am finding it very difficult to get any clear answers from 3.
  • Are you still using the same number?
If not you may have requested a PAC and not used it so the contract ran on.
I honestly dont think you can expect them to refund £26/month for 6 years.

Your contract may have reached the end of its minimum term at that time, but it didn't 'run out' and would have continued even if you stopped using it, unless you cancelled it by giving notice of termination or applying a PAC within thirty days of obtaining it from Three. Overlooking this would be the reason for your continuing monthly charges.

Why distraught? You clearly haven't missed the money in 6 years, so what has changed? Your chance of a refund is precisely zero, unless you can prove you used the PAC.

Hopefully you don't work in finance, I have known lots of people who work in finance that cant understand the basics of mortgage, pension, or tax calculations.  Stuns me how people can be so oblivious at times, first world 3%'er problems I guess ;P..
If I was you I would look at my credit report(s) to see if there's other debts you don't know about.
    https://www.clearscore.com/ free check of Equifax.
https://www.creditkarma.co.uk/ free check of Trans Union.
As for you getting a refund from Three, I think it's unlikely but you could try.  They may offer it as a goodwill gesture, but they may only offer it as a credit to an existing account.
I do agree with you on the view that perhaps idle/inactive accounts should automatically be frozen or closed.  Netflix does that now for accounts after a year or so, but the downside to doing it with phones is people would complain about their number getting "lost".
