Sky account in ex's name. Still being charged. Sky refused refund.

Options
Please be kind. I am embarrassed to admit this and utterly enraged with Sky.
Where do I stand? Can I get my money back and if so, how and who pays?...
Here are the headlines:
  • I split with my ex partner 2 years ago and both moved out of our house in June 18
  • We had sky tv and broadband package at £43.95pm
  • The account is in HIS name, but has my bank details assigned to it.
  • When I moved into my new home, I contacted Sky asking them to move the account over to my new address. They advised they couldn't do this as the account was in his name. They advised that he would need to contact them to cancel the account - and that I would need to open a new account with them (same package) for my new house.
  • My ex confirmed in June that he had contacted Sky and cancelled
  • I I continued to use Sky on the same package, but new account, until Summer this year (2020) - where I then decided to cancel my TV subscription and remain with the broadband.
  • This changed my DD to £27pm
  • Having checked my account it has come to light that I have been paying for BOTH accounts since my ex cancelled it in June 18!
  • This is embarrassing for me as I should have realised I was being charged twice. The payments came out staggered throughout the month and everything appeared as normal - as they were for the same amount £43.95 with the same title "SKY DIGITAL".  It wasn't until I changed my subscription to £27 did the £43.95 stand out.
  • I contacted Sky immediately and they tell me the broadband was cancelled in June, but the TV subscription was not. But they could not tell me how or who cancelled it.
  • They also told me they still could not cancel the tv subscription and that I was not entitled to any form of refund or credit.
  • They apparently have no record of my ex cancelling anything. But I do not believe this entirely as the broadband was cancelled around the same time as when he tells me he called to close the account.
I have no idea what to do now, but it works out as over £1k!!!
Please be kind - I am fully aware I should have seen this in my statements before now and am very embarrassed by the whole thing.
I do not know who is telling the truth here or if I have any rights to claim this money back - from Sky, my bank or indeed my Ex.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks x

I don't see why you are enraged with Sky when they don't appear to have done anything wrong. You had given permission for the payments to come from your account originally and it seems like you ex didn't properly cancel the account.

I think you will just need to take this as a lesson to check your bank properly from now on and make sure you know what every single payment that is coming from your account is for.
Make sure you cancel the Direct Debit for the account that isn't yours immediately (like you should have done when you moved out the house originally).
