    Hi,
    sorry for the useless information.
Well, if you go through the menu, (hint, press the menu icon and scroll) you should find your tariff, or look at your last bill, that's another hint.

I know what my tariff, is can you work it out from the figures I have given you 52p for 15.38kw?
And I do know what the £ sign means on my IHD.

I would think that the figure 4.027 kW is showing what your boiler is consuming at the time of the reading.

    Hi,
oh jings, I told you how to work it out, a kid at primary school could do it.
Lets say your standing charge is 20p, so 20p from 52 is 32, now divide 32 by usage 15.38, answer 2.08p.
More totally useless information I daresay.

I have a BG smart meter and IHD
I have just turned my heating on and the display shows a usage of 4.027.
Is this what my boiler will use until the thermostat kicks in?
I thought since it is a 28kWh boiler it would use 28kWh to heat the water
No the IHD does not display consumption in near real time like the electricity consumption and the boiler may ignite and cut out again a couple of times before the next approximated consumption figure is displayed thirty minutes later after the previous update.

The problem with trying to check your gas consumption using a samrat meter and the IHD is that although the meter records it's consumption continuously it only sends out the readings once every 30 minutes (this is because it is battery powered and doing it more often will deplete the battery much quicker) so any "instantaneous" reading will be the what the meter was using at the moment the data was sent which as thorganby says, could have been 30 minutes ago.
The electricity reading is more responsive as it's powered directly from the mains and the meter sends out readings approx once every six seconds so there is still a bit of a delay between when the reading was taken and when you actually see it on your IHD.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Your boiler is rated at 28kW, but that output is only ever reached when in full-on DHW mode. It won't use anything like that when it's simply heating the CH circuit.
