Whilst technically you can switch an account with £0 balance, it helps having a balance (£1+) to visualise when the switch actually happens as you can see the switch balance deposited into your account. No need actual requirement to keep money in the account though - pretty much all of my donor accounts are sitting around with a £0 balance. I just cycle a bit of cash through them every now and then to keep them from going dormant.

EDIT: If you've got a reward account, then I'd probably leave £2+ in to avoid you going accidentally overdrawn from the fee.

£100 from RBS and £100 from Ulster Bank received today  I shouldn't have been eligible for either due to receiving a switch bonus from NatWest fairly recently.

If you want to make a profit from RBS or Natwest Reward accounts, you also need enough money for the 2 monthly DDs in the account(s). All done by SOs from my main current account here. Plus, you have to claim the reward money as it doesn't get added to your current account(s) automatically.

Received the incentive! RBS waited till the very end to shell out the incentive. Very naughty of them!
But I quite like my new RBS Rewards account tbh, and will probably stick with it.

Switched one of my accounts to RBS early Dec -received text early Jan to say £100 will be coming. But nothing here yet ( am waiting for 29th )
OH did the same and got the same text and no payment yet but then
We switched a very old never used Joint account knowing that we wouldn't get any switch reward , however have just seen £100 paid into this joint account
Stranger and stranger eh ? 
Still hopefull that 2 x £100 will be received on 29th

Just checked both accounts (mine and Mrs billn) and both switch incentives have gone in, we share a mobile and only one of us received a text to say the money would be going in.

RBS totally true to their word with the incentive, although as a previous poster has mentioned, they did wait right till the last minute with the incentive payment.

Glad I opened the account as the mobile app is excellent and will start using the account more now as a fallback in case Santander start misbehaving.
