No Balance Transfer Fee with MBNA & Virgin

MBNA & Virgin have both sent me an email advertising no balance transfer fee on balance transfers done today (4th December). The BTs apply at the promotional rate (which is 0% on my Virgin card), and also includes Money Transfers to current accounts.
There is a link to the website on the email to proceed with a BT, however a colleague of mine who did not receive an email has just rung up the MBNA call centre and enquired about this, when he quoted the reference that's on the email, BT1207, he was able to do a BT on the phone and have the fee waived as well.
The only catch appears to be that the BTs must be done before 11.59 tonight.

Had the email too, but cannot see the rate applicable, what rate did your friend get ?
Were they already in a 0% rate period ?0 -
He already had a promo rate of 2.9% so that's the rate that they applied the BT at. My Virgin account has a promo rate of 0% and the email said the BT would be at this rate, however my MBNA account does not currently have a promo and, like yours, that email does not refer to a rate so it must go through at the contract rate.0

Hi, there - not even sure I am in/around the right Forum but can I try this? Saw 'Credit Cards' and thought this might be right. Anyway, in 2005 I used a credit card cheque to make a substantial purchase abroad. I now believe that purchase to be dangerous, defective and misrepresented. I think the law has changed on reclaiming on credit card expenditure abroad but how does this apply to credit card cheques? Does anyone know? Can anyone help? I would be very grateful for any advice at this stage. Thanks in advance.0

I did not receive the email but have one of their Sony cards. I had on the account a 0% until November 2008. I rang and quoted the BT1207 and they put it through at 0% and no fee. Brilliant0

been looking for one of these. i didnt get the e-mail, i think because i used one similiar about 6 weeks ago. In between i have BT funds back out of virgin to BMI baby, who have a capped fee, but lower credit facility, so
i rang virgin up today and filled that amount back up fee free.
thanks OP, much obliged.0 -

Remember that MBNA take no prisoners when it comes to late payments. Make sure you set up a Direct Debit for the min. amount. Then at least you know the payment will be made on time. However as usual you have the regular ones complaining it is all MBNA's fault when they take away the promotional rate.0
