Grr! Premium Msg info

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Checked my 3 phone bill and there was 6 quids worth of premium rate msgs to 79900 all at 7:30 pm on one day only.
Racked my brain to remember and I'm 95% sure it was partner's 10 yr old cousin playing with phone at that time (the little sht).

Phoned 3 and all they could tell me was name of company (various? google throws up nothing on that name) but they can't tell me what exactly was recieved (music, ringtones etc).

Ictis and ofcom can't give me any more info apart from telling me to contact my network (like I haven't done that already)

Anyone know how I can find out more before I confront the little runt?

Well, I emailed Three to complain that they aren't doing enough to help me and they rang back. The company is Migcan and I have emailed them to try and get more info. Apparently it's an adult service and you get a pin sent which you then use to access services on the web I think(according to some code of practice I saw after googling the number).

It also says that the premium service provider has a responsibility to verify the age of person (if over 18).

They haven't done so and the little sht is 10!

Anyone know if I can get a refund on this basis?

    Hi Flashnazia,

I would not put the blame on poor 'Little Sht' just yet.

I think 'Wantmemoney' will agree, it is not unknown for such companies, I use the term loosely, to send these texts out unsolicited. Do some chasing up and research as it may be a possibility that you have been a victim of a scam, another word for mobile phone fraud.

When contacting the service and content provider it is very important to make sure that all your details are removed from their records or it could happen again. Ask for confirmation as to when, date & time, you were suppose to have subscribed to their service & how, PC or Mobile. Ask why age confirmation was not requested & confirmed, if they say it had, demand details.

Don't bank on much help from 3 as the Networks can take up to 35% from the text charges.

If you are not satisfied make a complaint to PhonePayPlus, the Premium Rate Regulator on the web site or e-mail the CEO at gkidd@phonepayplus.org.uk.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the info.

The reason why I'm so quick to blame little sht is that two texts were sent from my phone to the shortcode. These only cost a couple of pence but they are requests for pins which are then sent at £1.50 per text. I think these pins are then used to access !!!!!! on the net.

Little horny 10 year old. I think he knows somethings up as we keep calling him round and he won't come. His mum died of cancer last year so I'll have to tread carefully...

I take it back the 'horny little sht' is to blame. They start early now. At 10 I was only interested in following Spurs & fishing. Correct, look where that got me.........:rotfl:

Where did it get you then...?

It is a bit hard to believe that a ten year old would go all the way to see adult content but then kids these days.....

Tried Phonepayplus but no joy. I know the name of the company now (MIGCAN) and am waiting for a response about the content that can be accessed with the pins and what website etc. Not holding my breath.

Anyone know if I can demand a refund because a minor used it and they didn't verify age?

That is the road to go down for a refund, they will come back and say that they received the age verification, demand proof. You are not dealing with 'blue chip' companies but 'cowboys'.

You got the normal response to a complaint to PhonePayPlus....Zero. E-mail the CEO at the address I posted informing him of the problem, the age of sender, the company in question, etc etc.

If you don't try you don't get!

    Good Luck
  • Maybe you should activate a 4 digit PIN lock on your phone such as Keyguard on Nokias which requires PIN to unlock keypad. You should find it in your security settings and instruction manual.
It will not get your money back but will prevent anyone using your phone without your PIN.
