Health insurance for 1 year in Spain?

I'm going to Spain in a few weeks and I'll need 1 years health insurance, I went onto compare the market and the cheapest was explorer travel insurance for £81.27 but it doesn't say per month, it just says the total cost for 12 months cover, surely this isn't for the entire 12 month period?

Telephone them.
Spain is pretty low risk, so I can believe that price.

Travel insurance is not private health insurance. It is for holiday cover. Presumably you are going to work or study.
If FCO advice is against travel to Spain that insurance will be void so you could end up with no insurance cover.
You need to Google for private health insurance forSpain and get some quotes

You are barking up completely the wrong tree. Annual Multi-trip travel insurance will not cover you to spend a year in Spain. The clue is in the words "Multi-trip". An annual policy allows you to take as many trips as you like, but each trip must not be more than a certain length. On a quick check that's 45 days for Explorer, 31 days for AXA.
If you plan to spend a year in Spain you will need a specialist (for Britons) product such as a Spanish health insurance policy. An ex-pat forum might be a good place to look for help on where to start looking.0 -
Are you needing health insurance or travel insurance?
Travel insurance includes health cover but only for medical emergencies and at present you'd be expected to use your EH1C and use public healthcare.
Are you being cautious/sensible in getting the insurance or are you considering the EU legal requirements for being in another member state?0 -
Look for "Long stay insurance"
Or if these apply to you
"Study abroad insurance",
"Gap year insurance",
"Backpacker insurance".

Hadn't seen the thread but thought it may be a residency thing as one of the EU requirements is that you have appropriate health insurance (not travel insurance). In the UK that was able to be covered off by the NHS in certain circumstances but no idea on Spain.
Given travel insurance in the EU at the moment is effectively a top-up of the EH1C I am not sure it would count if the Spanish public health system isnt considered sufficient in the first place but as said, only ever dealt with someone using EU laws to come into the UK not any other member state.0
