Broadband take action now?

One of my housemates is moving out and as the internet is in his name he's taking the router with him.
So I'll be taking over having the internet in my name, we are with tiscali at the moment, and its quite slow at times and a minimum 12 month contract.
I would like broadband with as little as minimum term as possible (as if i move to a different house they will have internet set up already so dont want to end up getting stuck in a 12 month contract).
We won't have a router to split the internet connection several ways - would it be expected for the ISP for provide it or are we going to have to buy one? I was thinking of switching to 02 and i have a 02 pay monthly contract anyway.
Lastly we can't get a MAC code as we're not switching but I will be setting up a new account in my name so does that mean it could take upto 2 weeks to sort? So should i be acting now rather than waiting until my housemate actually moves out? As i thought it might be better to wait until the replacement housemate moves in so we can all decide but if it'll take 2 weeks i'd rather get started now.
Thank you for any suggestions.

I have been using Freedom2Surf on a monthly broadband contract for over two years! Since signing up, they have been taken over by Pipex and recently by Tiscali.
On the whole, I have had a positive experience with them and have no reason to go elsewhere - their mail server sometimes experiences delays - but apart from that I would recommend them.
If I'd known that I'd be with them for this length of time, I would have initially signed up to a longer contract and got my modem and broadband connection free! Never mind, it was peace of mind that I was after and the option to switch ISPs at anytime, and that's what I got.
Here's their website: http://www.freedom2surf.net/adsl/homeuser.php?is=m1hbb"He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
www.newnet.co.uk Are monthly contract.
www.zen.co.uk Are monthly contract too, but more expensive.
I don't know what the set up charges are. With both you can order extra download when you need it and with zen its banked and carried over each month until its used.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I have been with Zen since Bisqit went bust, and can highly recommend them. They are slightly expensive but we haven't had any downtime and have never gone over our allowance. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

your more likely to wait 3 or even 4 weeks if you do not go down the MAC route ... 2 weeks for Tiscali to drop the marker, then another 2 for the new supplier . . . why not stay with Tiscali? Just buy another router, then you will have no problems....0
