Amazon - 'delivered' doesn't actually mean delivered

I think this has been covered before but I can't seem to find it using the search.
I was expecting two packages from Amazon today, both ordered yesterday morning using Prime and showing as for delivery today. Got an update at around 12.45 to say one of the items had been left in letterbox- checked and there was nothing there and my Ring doorbell shows no one at all approaching the house. At 2pm got an update to say second item had arrived and was handed to resident- checked letterbox and found that second item.

Phoned Amazon to explain that first item was not delivered and I have been told that showing as delivered is not actually a confirmation that item has been delivered and in no way implies this won't still arrive- and in fact according to them Prime can take an extra working day so it is not technically due until Tuesday up to 9pm. They asked me to check with neighbours etc and then to wait until Tuesday - and if nothing arrives then to call them Wednesday morning.

So, as far as Amazon is concerned delivered doesn't actually mean delivered - so I will wait and see if it turns up by Tuesday .

Had that to said to me too, last week. Until I pointed out that i had watch the delivery driver gain access to the property, They then refunded, had said i would prefer the driver came back to retrieve the item and give it to me. Saw the boy come back the next day, buzzed my door asking to be let in so he could leave a note with the neighbour opposite, so assume he had delivered to the address across from me instead.

Do you not consider this counts as a vent or a warning?

good news though, my item turned up today, about 24 hours after originally showing as delivered .

  • Had "handed to resident" several times & I was not even at home. Came up on my app. I just go to webchat to complain & get told usual check neighbours etc. But it is then noted on system so should item not actually arrive you've proof you have told them. Usually item left on doorstep.

Unless I sign for any parcel delivered to me then I didn't receive it even if left on my doorstep it did not arrive regardless of the informing email. This may sound dishonest but today's delivery drivers make a lot of premeditated mistakes.

I had a 'delivered' once with no item.  CCTV showed nobody at the front door etc.   Amazon said the same to me, not actually confirmation blah blah.  I got a refund eventually.

3 months later whilst gardening I found the now ruined parcel on the edge of the pond.  Clearly couldn't be arsed to walk up our drive so just threw it over the fence.

Nice, I got a handed to resident whilst I was at the local once. Vert confused. When I got back I realised I left the back conservaroty doors open (for the cats) and it was left inside that, full access to the house avaialble. But we live in a sleepy village so whatever! (I assume their list does not have a "shouted though open door and assumed resident must be in the toilet, so left hte parcel inside" option ;-) )

Left with Receptionist seems to be the favourite with our Amazon drivers at the moment... no idea who this receptionist is or who's paying him/her but they seem to keep handing my parcels to my neighbours without anything to tell me which one.

"May" sound dishonest?  It is dishonest if you are claiming refunds you are not entitled too.  You can look forward to your account being suspended.

Plus with the current pandemic most companies are not letting you sign, so you’ll find their terms and conditions say different.
