Money gone missing from Halifax bank account

Has anyone had any money go missing from a Halifax account upon renaming the account? For a long time, one of my online saver accounts had a balance of £200 (and some pence varying with interest), which I'd set aside for driving lessons/test for a friend's daughter. £200 has disappeared leaving just 50p, and the Halifax are telling me that the account has had no transactions since 2014. This is simply not true; it's as if the more recent account history has disappeared along with the money! Unfortunately the account does not give statements so it is my word against theirs that the money was ever there. The only thing I'd done was change the name of the account around a month ago (a new feature for Halifax), and I noticed the change of balance about a week later. I am wondering if this could have some how been the cause. Halifax tell me the name change is something only I see (surely they would have a record of any activity against an account), and the next step is for me to contact the Financial Ombudsman, who will ask Halifax for a copy of the account transactions and evidence from me that the money was there. I have no statements and therefore no evidence.

Have you tried sending Halifax a SAR for your accounts- they’ll send all the statements over and you can have a look.
Have you not statements online?1 -
Do you not have statements from the account you paid the £200 from, that would help prove you paid it in.2

It's not a new feature, I changed the name of my account six years ago. What's new is that you can now do it in the app. Before, you had to do it through online banking.MT07 said:The only thing I'd done was change the name of the account around a month ago (a new feature for Halifax)1 -
What account is it that doesn't give statements?MT07 said:Unfortunately the account does not give statements so it is my word against theirs that the money was ever there.
As I understood it the bank has to provide a statement annually as a minimum for any account, certainly one that you have online access to. Even assuming what you said is true (which I don't think it is) then the bank will certainly have records of all transactions.
Banks don't operate on a "He said, She said" basis.1 -

But even passbook accounts with the Halifax moved online. When I signed up online with them there was all the documentation and statements from the Children's Savers I was trustee for which were opened/operated in branch and closed long before then.
Not to mention, a passbook is a statement in itself.3 -
When I log into my Halifax accounts I can see every entry going back to the year dot.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

After renaming your accounts, does any of the other have roughly the right amount in it - have you perhaps inadvertently got confused as to which account was which?1
