  • I'd agree, New Orleans rocks. I had a blast on Burbon street. It's worth noting that it's not known to be the safest place for tourists as the surrounding areas have a reasonably high level of crime

But the cocktail bars are amazing :)

The French Quarter is amongst the safest places in the world, very heavily policed, especially now when they are trying to encourage tourism to return. However, should you venture beyond this 'square' you can be taking a real risk. I wouldn't want to visit Louis Armstrong Peace Park at nighttime...

Saying that, the only time I had any trouble was a cab driver who pulled a gun on me after I told him New Orleans was 'rubbish'. No sense of humour these Americans!

I have alaso been planning to do a road trip at some point and am very interested at this thread so thanks for starting it.

I purchased a book I think may help you. It's called. Road trip USA by Jamie Jensen. Got mine from Amazon.

It gives you 11 routes. Full of info on each route including Route 66. New York to Miami (costal route) and jasper national Park to Ambos Nogales (which includes Las Vagas).

I personally will not follow any of the listed routes as I like to plan to much to be told exactly where to go but it has just given me enough info to start me off on the right track.

I have also purchased a book called. Lonnley Planet roadtrip. Blues and BBQ. This does a route from Memphis to New Orleans. It's only 66 pages so don't pay a lot for it but if you are considering that area it may alaso be of help.

I would be interested in anyone willing to post with any experience they have had with a USA road trip. It gives ideas you just don't get anywhere else.

Ive been looking into these sort of trips.

Simply pout there is just SO much in the USA, that I do agree there is FAR too much for us all to suggest.

I would say, goand get a guide book from the library. I looked at the lonely planet one.

There are some fantastic route planners on line.

Also look at www.roadsideamerica.com which has loads of attractions listed and millions upon millions of ideas, and stacks of preplanned routes on there.

I agree that is a ridiculous amount of milage to over those places, I would be looking at 4months minimum to cover that sort of space. Dont forget, its practically a whole continent.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
