Relocating to Birmingham

Hi thanks everyone. Lots of good info there, much appreciated. I know there are nicer areas away from the city centre but I need to be walking distance from new street station, hence the limited search area.
I will look at the suggestions and come back with any questions
I could potentially increase my rental budget further if needed but based on what I’ve seen, £1000-£1150 should be sufficient for a 2 bed. Postbox building particularly seems to have decent spacious flats, under that range.1 -
This one is amazing, hoping for a reduction....

There seem to be 10s of flats in the Centenary Plaza building. Is that any good? Thanks1 -
Yes, those old school properties are lovely! Rare to find character like that in the centre of Birmingham.FirstTimeSolo said:This one is amazing, hoping for a reduction....

Not sure on the building itself but the location for Centenary Plaza is on a slightly odd road (in so far as it isn't really anywhere... Hard to explain if you haven't visited/don't live there) but it is right in the middle of all the areas you'd want to be able to access if living there - Mailbox/Gas Street Basin/Brindley Place and an easy walk to New Street station and the city centre.
If you haven't already noted it, there's concierged apartments on the corner of Navigation St. and Hill St., which are basically above a Sainsbury's Local and right over the road from New Street.

Dont waste your money on something boring in the city centre!, some where like selly park is on a main bus route, buses every 7 minutes into the city centre and a nice big park ! City Centre places are souless
Places like selly park/edgbaston are about 20 minutes on the bus into the city centre1 -
Thanks for the info but I want to as close to the station as possible and definitely only a short walk away as I will have a long commute a few days a week. Also I want to be close to shops and restaurants rather than in quiet residential areas so unfortunately areas further out are not for me, even though they may have nicer accommodation.BrownTrout said:Dont waste your money on something boring in the city centre!, some where like selly park is on a main bus route, buses every 7 minutes into the city centre and a nice big park ! But if you did want to live in City centre jewellery Quarter has more character then some of the box flats around1 -
Yes totally possible to catch an early train but I just want to make my day as short as possible by minimising commute from Birmingham. I will not be travelling to London but to a small station in the midlands. I’ve always lived in central London so the flats in Birmingham don’t feel ‘box’ like at allBrownTrout said:

Birmingham City living is very different from London. Which area of London to you prefer and we can match you to a suitable Brum suburb. Also which station will you be commuting to?1

That sounds a good suggestion by LittleMax and, yes, he's right about B-ham living being a world away from London.LittleMax said:Birmingham City living is very different from London. Now, for the first time since this thread started, we find that the O/P wants to travel to another "small" station in The Midlands ! Has he thought about merely picking a nice area , rather than that around New Street------and then drive by car to wherever it is he wants to go to 3 times a week. That's another example of difference between London and B-ham------in Birmingham, most people who have ever lived there, especially like the O/P who wants an early start ( thus missing the "rush hour" ), would travel by car. In London, very few people would drive by car to somewhere in the home counties ( because the "rush hour" lasts more than an hour and the roads are not an attractive option).
I feel we are going round in circles on this thread and that perhaps the O/P should spend a week in B-ham and make up his own mind. And I hope he finds what he wants and wish him well.2
