@poppy, because without childcare, WE wouldn't be able to work. That's him and me?

I'll correct that for you. Without childcare you wouldn't be able to work. Your child lives with you, not your ex.

I want him to pay half the nursery fees and us not claim from an already over exhausted system.
He's your ex partner, your wants arent anything to do with him.

I'm confused why people support this,
    My wages- 1500
    his wages 3400
    childcare fees 1050
    Goverment pay 600
    CM 270.
She's will be 6 out of 7 nights- because he chooses to have 2 jobs.

Your childcare fees for one child are very high.  How old is your child?
Do you not have any family who could help out?

you say he calculated  the child maintenance amount or was it done through the Child Maintenance Service
    Is that the correct amount?

Just out of interest how much time does she spend with her father?
Is it possible to have shared responsibility - week on, week off.

I'm in the same boat, but she pays CM, don't pay me for anything else. I paid the childcare fees all along, claim the 85% back via UC. I can't or anyone else can't force her to pay. I drop a day to make it easier and was better off to be fair.
I now get 30 hours a week free.. but it spread over a year so still has to pay 120 a month. Get 85% back still through UC so only having to pay £20 quid.
If your not happy then give up being the resdecy parent of child.. and work full time and pay CM.
Sadly what happen here and it why i have the child. To be fair i rather pay the fees and have more time with my child. Her mum also lives in a diffrent town over 20 miles away.. so i know i can put a child in school near me.

In your opening post you say your ex is telling you to claim 85% of the childcare cost from the govenment.
The amount you have given that the JC say you can get as a contribution is under this amount.
Have you told your ex that he is mistaken in the amount that he thinks you will need to pay from your wages?
You can only hope this information will mean he will contribute more.

Can you look at working around each other to reduce childcare jobs. This is what thousands of people with young kids do to cut down on childcare costs ? If he is hands on with the parenting maybe look at ways you could do this, both working part time, or one doing evenings/ weekends etc.
