Deposit return

Dear OP
I've consulted my OH as we buy at least one brand new car per 11/13 months.
A car dealer deposit, it is considered an upfront or initial payment on a car. As a rule, it is not refundable unless specific circumstances apply. When buying a car from a dealership, the dealer will want two things: a signed contract and/or a deposit.
Therefore, unless you asked and they confirmed its not recovable unless they show goodwill and a main dealer does that and other big well established co's but smaller ones will most likley not
If you did the deal over the phone like we do, then you are covered by the long distance sales act and you may want to further investigate that to see if it does apply to your situation
As a last resort, negotiate a partial return of deposit butter than nothing IMO.
Take care and let us know.

I put a deposit on a car by debit card, later that eveyI had to ask to cancel the transactionI asked about my position on cancellation later that day, then asked if it had been cancelled, but never ‘instructed’ them to cancel
So, if I'm reading this right you asked them to cancel just the card transaction, but not the sale of the car to you?
If so, I can see how someone may have been confused (I am), and how asking to cancelling the transaction could be construed as instructing them to cancel the whole deal, especially as you asked them to confirm it had been cancelled (whatever "it" was).

This is now quiet a different question.RichardD1970 said:I put a deposit on a car by debit card, later that eveyI had to ask to cancel the transactionI asked about my position on cancellation later that day, then asked if it had been cancelled, but never ‘instructed’ them to cancelSo, if I'm reading this right you asked them to cancel just the card transaction, but not the sale of the car to you?

Maybe you should have consulted him before giving wrong advice in your previous post. An apology to the OP for giving him false hope would be appropriate.sweetsand said:Dear OP

it’s it would be appropriate but she is more likely to simply delete the erroneous post and deny she posted it going by previous form.0
