    my Circumstances changed
Bit vague.  If there was an exceptional event, people may be able to suggest reasons to argue for the garage to show forbearance.
Sounds more like a simple change of mind / buyer's remorse.

Very much lesson learned, they were clear they only sell for amount shown on screen, on principle I would never buy from Sascron EVER
  • Yet you did buy from them, you just didn't take delivery for some reason you seem reluctant to mention.

I put a deposit on a car by debit card, later that eveyI had to ask to cancel the transaction only to be told the deposit was non refundable, which was never made clear, I requested deposit back and was offered a credit note or buy the car, in less than a week they have sold the car to someone else, no one at the dealership will speak to me
Assuming 'eveyl' means evening, I'm intrigued as to what suddenly changed in your circumstances the very same day you had put down a £1K deposit on the car?
If that isn't impulse buying, I don't know what is?

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I've taken deposits at 5pm and had calls at 9am the following day with the line '' I've lost my job'' :)

    Dear OP
I heard an advert on radio last week I think where someone was saying that buying with a debit cards gives you the same rights as a credit card - not sure what they mean but check with your debit card people your rights to cancel

Then ask the company for the details where your deposit was non refudnable.
    Then take it from there.
As you said if it is non refudnable the onus is on them to make it clear that it is not. I always ask but in the scheme of things we can forget and imo it is up to the seller to tell you - possibly contact citizen advice as well then go in armed with all the info.

But she should use a debit card so she will have cold hard evidence whether it would work.

Martin disagrees with claiming back on debit cards, section 75 only applies to (most) credit card payments.

Don't you think leaving a deposit is entering into a contract to buy the car and the OP went onto break that contract?

Thats another one you won't answer as its too hard.
