No support whilst on maternity

>>a letter from my employer to prove I will be returning to work full time<<
Which to be fair proves nothing. As in the current climate who is to say they will still be trading in December.
Finance companies have to be very careful who/what they lend now. Thanks to the FCA and unaffordable or irresponsible lending.Life in the slow lane0 -
You mentioned found a car that 'we' wanted - if the finance companies are looking at your income alone then the maternity leave will have an impact, could the loan be taken out jointly or solely by your partner?sophieclifford2018 said:please help! Anyone with any advice.
Currently have a car on pcp have found another car we really wanted. Got approved for 10,000 finance HP. Once I told them (as obviously I wanted to be honest) that I was on maternity but going back full time in December my finance has now been declined.1 -
Just ask your partner to finance it, as Jonesya says.
In the olden days when I had my babies, we didn't have a car at all. We managed, though.
There's no discrimination because you are a parent, it's because as others have said, you may change your mind and not return to work or if you do, you may return for fewer hours which means less money and money lenders are very cautious, as they have to be. With the best will in the world, your income can't be guaranteed. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Your baby doesn't even know what a car is, what money is, what finance is. As long as it's got food in it's belly, somewhere to sleep and is warm and dry that's all it gives a toss about for literally the first 18 months of it's life. And even then for the following few years you could run around in a £200 shed and the child wouldn't have a clue there was anything wrong with that. It's only once they got to school that things might change.sophieclifford2018 said:Apologies for the big rant but feel completely let down and punished for having a baby and now feel i have let my baby down

You say that you don't have the [full] balloon payment, but do you have "anything" you can buy another car with?
Like others have said, you'll probably have to make do with a "get you from A to B" car for a little while, until you are able to refinance your preferred car. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Even then, it doesn't matter. I have a 18 year-old car and my wife a 9 year old car. We have no interest in 'image', 'keeping up with the Jones's' etc. I don't care if it's the oldest car in the school car park on parent's evenings. My 3 kids have never had any friction because of it, and if they did, the issue would be with the shallow child spouting it in the first place. We'd rather spend money on the house and hobbies.MinuteNoodles said:It's only once they got to school that things might change.
