No support whilst on maternity

please help! Anyone with any advice.
Currently have a car on pcp have found another car we really wanted. Got approved for 10,000 finance HP. Once I told them (as obviously I wanted to be honest) that I was on maternity but going back full time in December my finance has now been declined. I also spoke to my current pcp finance company and explained that due to being on matenrity and because of the covid 19 I have no longer got the balloon payment due next month and asked for a year extension on monthly repayments. Once again they told me because im on maternity they cant help me extend my finance and have given me a month to come up with the balloon payment which I cant do. So my only option is to hand the car back next month which will result me having a 9 month old baby and no car and not able to apply for any finance until I go back to work in January but subsequently I cant go to work as I will no longer have a car and won't be able to drop my baby off to child minders.
I feel that being refused finance due to being on maternity is disgusting I have proved that my yearly wage is over 27k a year and can pay back the monthly instalments. I have asked if they would be happy with a letter from my employer to prove I will be returning to work full time to prove I can afford the repayments which they have said no. I feel I have been penalised for having a baby.

Is there anything out there that would help part exchange my vehicle and accept me on maternity. I am due back to work December and back on full pay so I will have more than enough money to afford a car and I can certainly afford the repayments at this moment in time.

Apologies for the big rant but feel completely let down and punished for having a baby and now feel i have let my baby down

Thanks in advance

They have no guarantee that you'll be going back to work
  • Stop with the 'panic mode' bit and just find a cheap runabout to tide you over till you get back to work. Don't know what you mean saying you have let your baby down?

But you've known since September 2016 or 2017 (assuming a 3 or 4 year PCP) that you would need to either make the balloon payment, start a new PCP, or hand the vehicle back in September 2020. That was long before you became pregnant, and long before covid-19 began.
You are not being refused finance because you are on maternity leave, you are being refused it because your current financial situation makes you a higher risk. The risk factor here for the finance co. is presumably the possibility that you might decide not to return to work in December/January after all and so then could not afford the repayments. They can't advance you finance now based on what your situation might be 4  or 5 months hence.
Is there any equity in the vehicle beyond the MGFV?

Surely the easy solution is to buy an older, lower-value stop-gap car until such time as you're back at work and can get back on the finance treadmill...?

Can you get a personal loan from a regular bank or even a credit card deal, or borrow the money for the ballon payment from family. How much is the ballon vs how much is the car worth? Get a price from We but any car. You might be dodging a bullet handing the car back.

Panic not OP, Sandy will be along in a bit with a solution.
Will it involve buying a new S-Class Merc every six months?

A very high percentage of people off on maternity don't go back to work, so I can see their reluctance.
Have you spoken to your own bank about a loan to cover the balloon payment?
