It was slapped in my face yesterday afternoon when I had a call from my agent asking if I would do a tour in April for 8 weeks. My other daughter was sitting next to me and could hear the conversation, she turned away and went to walk off, I grabbed her and as she turned I could see tears streaming down her face. I felt like the worst parent on the planet. My little one was so sad, she couldn't stand the idea that mummy would be off working again for weeks at a time.
So let me get this right. You children have the chance to get rid of you for 8 weeks, and they burst into tears, and this makes you a bad mother? I'm afraid I don't quite understand that train of thought. If given the chance to get rid of you for 8 weeks, they pulled their jerseys over their heads and ran a victory lap through the house shouting "She shoots! She scores!" - then maybe then it would follow that you weren't the best of mothers to have around. In fairness I hate the tours too, but I'm so stuck between earning a living and being a mum. Sometimes it's hard to turn the work away, on a 2 month tour I can earn £20,000, that allows me to not work for a few months, picking and choosing what I do. But, rightly so, the kids don't care about that and I suppose it's a lesson I needed to learn too.
I'm going for a meeting with my agent today who is no doubt going to tell me I am only as good as my last gig
I'm sure he also says stuff like "Trust me." and "The cheque is in the post."I have to leave totally though, if I say I'll only do the studio sessions I'll keep having the tours and stuff thrown at me, and they are hard to keep turning down.
How hard is hard? Isn't this the second you've turned down in the past couple of weeks? Is it not getting any easier? So, that's my news, sorry to make this thread all about me again! I seem to do that daily with my dramas. I just wanted to get it all off my chest though. Hope you don't mind
Would we mind?

I'm still trying to tell myself I do NOT need a new Christmas tree. The one in the loft, costing £4 from Ebay 3 years ago will probably do another year and when it is decorated is, at the end of the day, just a Christmas tree, even though it looks a bit tatty when 'naked'. Spending £25 on a new one when it's only going to see the light of day for 21 days of the year is daft and I have to try to shake the urge to spend!!!!
A christmas tree is just something to keep the tinsel up - it doesn't matter what it looks like naked. If you could get baubles to levitate - you wouldn't need one at all..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

That's quite interesting Zed, thanks. It sounds like the 'towel trick' that IA used on her XBox, oddly enough. (I'm not making light of it at all, just struck by the similarities)."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

If you gave your children the choice of anything they wanted or their mum what would they choose?
I'm not trying to influence your decision as like I said I've got no right to but, and everyone is different, being in debt has taught me that although money can buy you the most of expensive things, it really has little value!
That sounded like one of those chinese proverb things. I'm gonna copyright that!
SS, how did you get so blimmin wise? You always say the right thing :kisses2:
Toto, sorry to hear your news hun :grouphug:
If it helps, my kids were given a choice last year. I could go back to a job I hated, or quit and spend more time with them, the drawback being MUCH less money in the house. They insisted they wanted me to quit, my DH agreed, so that's what happened. 18 months on and we've not got much money, I'll be repaying my debts for decades, but we're happy and the kids have a much nicer mummy. I have been very lucky in that I got a job at my kids' school, so not only do I get every school holiday with them, but I'm there during the school day too :j
I asked my DD recently if we made the right decision, and she said that we definitely did.
You'll be OK hun, I'm sure.Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Spud, thanks for telling us about your experiences. I think I'm going to be in a very similar position next year, and it's good to know it DOES have a positive impact on your children."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Snaggles, it was the best thing I could've done.
I didnt realise before just how stressed I was, but I must've been awful to live with.
Nowadays, I'm chilled. I dont have any work stress worth mentioning (we were blowing bubbles in school yesterday
)
A huge bonus is that my DS is making vast improvements at school. I'm not sure if it's anything to do with having extra time with me, but I'm really pleased. He too has some learning difficulties - dyslexia/dyspraxia ish
