    Hi Pin Pen

Thank goodness for this site and all the great advice. If you hadn't stopped me, I would have gone at it like a bull at a gate and totally ruined it :T

someone more experienced will be along soon...but i know 'baby oil' removes tar from some surfaces.......not saying it will work with carpet and you could just end up with a tarry/oily mess..._pale_...soz not exactly helpfull...:(

I heard mayonnaise was supposed to remove tar. Someone tried it on their car upholstry and it worked apparently.

    Hi Tomtom,

There are some suggestions on this thread that may help:

Help !! Tar on cashmere jumper

I'll combine your thread with that one later to keep the ideas together.

My husband used to come home covered in the stuff. Rub a little lard into it, don't worry it looks worse before it gets better, then wipe as much off as possible. When it looks fairly clean rub in washing up liquid to remove the last traces, and finally give it a couple of rubs with a clean wet cloth to rinse out the soap.

    Hiya,

My 20 year old daughter has walked over a little patch of tarmac that was laid this morning in our garden. Yes I said 20 year old not 2 year old Lol. Luckily it still was not hot. However she is left with pretty black marks on the soles of her feet.
Any ideas how to remove it? We have tried nail varnish remover and body spray but didnt shift it at all.

On Bizarre ER this week there was a guy who had it on his hands (muppet put his hand in hot freshly laid stuff:eek:).Anyway, they managed to scrape some off easily but the rest they plastered his hand in cream, bandaged it (had to for huge blisters lol) and tied a sandwich/freezer bag around his hand.24 hours later the tar had been softened and was easily scraped off the skin.

So maybe try something similar?Cover in cream, leave it to work on softening then either try and rub off or get it scraped off gently?

In the very distant past when as a child I walked in bare feet in the summer, the standard 'cure' for tar on feet was to smother it in butter, rub like mad and the black could eventually be washed away in warm soapy water....not sure if it will work if there has already been applications of other things but worth a try and in MS style, I am sure that the cheapest 'butter' product available will do as well as anything else.
