Sending gemstones to India can be tricky, did you send all the correct paperwork?

Although you were returning them their customs may have seen it as importing them, incorrect paperwork
so they get destroyed.

Yes, I provided 4 copies with customs documents attached to the cargo and then when DPD asked provided all the evidence they required that it was a return. They accepted the documents. It was a return. 

I have now consulted with a lawyer and he has said the following: You paid them for full cover. They may blame customs in India though you cannot sue customs in India - only the parcel company who had control of your items. You did pay for full cover to my view is you pursue DPD.

So I will proceed with another legal letter to them and afterwards a small claims court. DPD are now not responding at all, which is absurd as one of the tracking websites still states out for delivery. If this is not a part of their service then I don't know what services are they offering? I can take anyones parcels for money, lose them and not be to blame?
