Dealings with deporvillage.net

Last week i purchased some new wheels for my mountain bike a new cassette(gears for the wheelset) and disk rotors, from the above mentioned company. they took they money from my bank account. but on my deporvillage account it said payment pending, that seemed pretty normal thing to happen on the day of monies being removed from my account, However after 4 days of my deporvillage account saying payment pending i grew suspicious. so i sent an email to deporvillage.net and got no response. Sent them another email still using the online contact form on there site, Still no response. By this time im thinking is this a scam.
I go on to trust pilot to basically tell of this experience and i get a response there within minutes of posting on trust pilot, saying that an agent will contact me and they had no contacts from me. 3 hours later I get a response from there agent telling me the wheels are not in stock. I immediately cancelled the order and im hoping that i have the refund within the 48 hours (24 hours left as i write this).
so my question is how was i able to checkout when they did not have items in stock and what can i do if i do not get my 500 pounds back, i paid using my visa debit if that helps.

any advise would help, thanks in advance

As for various reasons many companies don't have a fully joined up inventory system... for many companies the point of sale system in store, online and potentially in call centres are totally independent and so if they have 1 item left and its sold then the other two channels don't automatically get informed its now out of stock. Add to that the complexity that some items technically are never in stock but ordered directly from the manufacturer/distributor and there is often no live link between the retailers website and their suppliers inventory system.

As you paid by debit card you can do a chargeback for non-receipt of goods with your bank.

Can't do non receipt on a cancelled order, as there are no goods to be delivered. And the company can use that a simple rejection.
OP will need to get something in writing stating they are going to/have refund £500 on XX date to card end XXXX. If it's not received in 15 days then they can look at non receipt of refund (good luck getting proof)
