Flight cancellation with no notice

Hello all,
My parents travelled to the airport in July expecting to take a Aer Lingus flight to Ireland for a week's trip. When they arrived there was no flight scheduled. It appears that the route was cancelled a few months earlier by the airline by the airline but no notification was given to my parents. Is this something they can claim for under EU 261? After much chasing up by me, the airline have now offered a full refund or vouchers.

First thing to establish is whether Aer Lingus definitely did not notify your parents. Could it have gone to junk email? Did they book via an agent? A clue would be if there was a whole plane load of passengers at the airport expecting a flight, or just your parents?0

Booked directly with the airline. Just parents at airport. But they're very on the ball with things. They are always booking to go to Ireland. They were constantly checking their spam folder during the covid lockdown. The recent are Lingus email about a refund came straight into their inbox as well as the original booking confirmation.0

What did their booking on the airline website show? did they attempt to check in online in advance? there are so many reschedules and cancellations currently with things constantly changing I would recommend everyone check their booking at least every couple of days0
