What did Volvo say when you raised it as a warranty issue?
  • I have not been intouch with Volvo myself . The garage asked Volvo and they said they would pay 30% of the costs

Did you buy it new, how old is it?

A contribution suggests the car is outside of warranty.
If this is a turbo diesel they really don't like low miles, especially if the miles are occasional short trips.

So the manufacturer warranty has expired or is invalid, and you aren't dealing with a Volvo dealer?

Do you have any aftermarket warranty?
How long have you had the car?
Was it new or used, and - if used - what mileage when you got it?

I'd suggest you get it diagnosed by Volvo, rather than elsewhere. It's unusual for a turbo to fail at such low mileage in any car.
However, it's one of those items that is a favourite to blame when someone has no idea what's wrong, along with injectors!

If you have a full Volvo service history take it in to a Volvo dealership who will negotiate on your behalf. I've found Volvo pretty good out of warranty, I had a new engine at 4 years and new clutch at 5 years paid for by Volvo.

Do you have the maintenance agreement with Lex? As its PCH they may just deal with the issue as its still there vehicle.
On a Seat i had on lease, the virtual dash was dead and a call to VWFS got them to sort it with Seat (all i had to do was drop it into dealer).
  • My experience with Volvo customer services out of warranty is not the same as above. I have a XC60 new shape 2017 D4 Auto with 63000 miles. Full main dealer service history plus i had an extended warranty up to 60K 4 years.
The starter motor has failed that in turn has caused the drive plate to fail. Expensive fix. Lots of back and forth between dealer, me and Customer services. They thought 40% is a reasonable gesture of goodwill. Fell well below my expectations given its age /mileage and how its been looked after . Poor Customer service. Never will i buy Volvo again.

These items have failed after 63k miles and slightly outside the warranty that you had on the vehicle.

If Volvo contributed 40%, that means you paid 60% so equates to an expected component life of 100k miles of which you had 60% use and pay 60%.
What component life would you expect?
If the items failed at, say, 85k miles, would you have accepted the full cost falls to you?

The solution from Volvo seems equitable.
