Nationwide Travel Insurance - waste of money?

Got stuck in Spain mid March due to Covid 19 lockdown and couldn't get a flight home until early July due to cancellations and government restrictions. Spoke to Nationwide early to discuss and told to keep all out of pocket receipts for a claim when we returned home.
On our return one Nationwide rep told us we could only claim for a delay max of £250 each person. Second rep told us that's not correct and in fact we couldn't claim anything! He did however tell me that if we had a dog we could claim extra costs for the dog :(
Claim for £1200 out of pocket expenses was rejected.
Complaint got nowhere so it's now with the FO.
Is it worth having this packaged bank account?

If you don't read up on what you are actually covered for. Then seems little point in paying for the benefits offered on the account.
  • It annoys me that MSE says Nationwide Flex Plus is good for covid cover.  My family ski holiday was cancelled in March when the resorts closed, and I can't get a penny out of Nationwide.  They have used nothing but stalling tactics and refuse to pay up, despite the terms & conditions clearly stating there is £5k of cancellation cover.

    Who cancelled the holiday?

It's not that simple though. Insurance is a "last resort" option only for use when other options may be available. If your travel company cancelled your trip then you are due a refund from them so maybe that's why your insurance is not so forthcoming. Once you have exhausted all other avenues then the insurance comes into play.
It's far to simple a statement to say "They're refusing to pay up despite having cancellation cover" which is probably more about providing cover if you have to cancel a trip due to an unforeseen event on your part.
  • Despite declaring all health issues and paying £200+ for cover they have knocked back my claim stating we didn't tell them about an outpatient appointment! I asked to have transcript of the phone call as they claimed we hadn't informed them of the issue but suddenly the call recording just happened to be corrupt. That's another one with the Ombudsman :)

Well, it is.  Which? Money Compare included this in their e-mail this week: 'Coronavirus travel insurance: who will cover me?'
    https://www.which.co.uk/news/2020/08/coronavirus-what-it-means-for-your-travel-insurance/ - Which?

Nationwide's insurance was the only one to cover all 5 of 5 separate scenarios.  Scan down to check the results.
  • It’s actually underwritten by UK Insurance for anyone interested.

Far too many people think that as it's a packaged bank account. ALL the insurance it might have are provided by the Bank...
Instead of reading the paperwork which will tell them who provides it.
In fact it's even on Nationwides website..

    >>>FlexPlus Worldwide Family Travel Insurance policies are underwritten by U K Insurance Limited. Registered office: The Wharf, Neville Street, Leeds, LS1 4AZ. Registered in England and Wales No.1179980. U K Insurance Limited is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, registration No. 202810.<<<

I guess OP did not like the replies in the previous thread on the same subject.
