TI think they will try harder to seat you together when you book in but you can still book your seats if you want to?  Is that correct?  Therefore still no guarantee you would actually be sat together if 99% opt to pay for seats.    It’s not something I’ve ever worried about - on short journeys 2-3 hours I don’t care where I sit and on longer ones I would pick my own.  Up to you what you do so therefore am of absolutely no help whatsoever 🤪.

I flew from Edinburgh to Heathrow and onto Venice on British Airways a couple of weeks ago and made the return trip the next day.
The only leg of the four flights not full was the outward leg from Edinburgh to London.
The other three were literally full and I was "piggy in the middle" on two of them.

Social distancing ends the minute you get onboard.

Just to add as soon as they bring the refreshments around you can take your mask off to eat and drink. So the person you couldn't sit next to in the departure area is right next to you chowing down unmasked !!!
