Insurance issue

My current car needs replaced-so buying one today. The current car policy expires 16th September. Can I run my new car on my current policy- scrap my old one and take out new insurance for new? I assume my new claims bonus added at the 16th of September can't be claimed until that policy ends? As such then I would need to insure my new car and miss out extra year no claim?
thanks

Easiest route is simply to change cars on your existing policy. Most insurers will cover both cars for a short period while you sell/scrap the old one: maybe even free.

You will obviously need to tell your current insurer about the change in cars.
You haven't earned this year's NCB until the 16th... you may yet still have a claim on that policy!1 -

Yes. just contact your insurer to switch insurance from one car to the next. You may also want to ask whether you could renew just now and retain your full NCB.

£1.17 extra. £26 admin charge to take me to 16th Sept.1

Why would you want to renew now, rather than ask the meerkats in a few weeks time?The_Rainmaker said:Yes. just contact your insurer to switch insurance from one car to the next. You may also want to ask whether you could renew just now and retain your full NCB.

Moot point now, but some insurers might have wanted to add a hefty admin fee.Car_54 said:

You'd still be sensible doing new business quotes beforehand as whilst some will charge a hefty admin fee many also give significant new business discounts which would greatly outweigh any admin fee.The_Rainmaker said:
