Just to comment on the process, the referral just takes you to a page where you register your name, DoB, postcode etc.  It just registers you as being referred.

The application for a current account can be done immediately afterwards - or can wait until you're ready - but details will need to match those you put on the referral form, obviously!

The switch needs to happen within 30 days of account opening - and as far as I can tell the switch process has to be done by phone or in store, I can't see a way to do it online.

  • Check the file format.  I used jpg and that was OK, I had something in PDF which it didn't like.  I didn't try other image formats but jpg worked for me.

is there a way of sending a "selfie" from a stored image? i couldn't fathom a way to do the whole application on the PC. my ID was on my PC. so i ended up having to take a new ID photo on my phone and send a live "selfie".
i'm all sorted but is suspect the question about "selfies" will be asked.

I also had this palaver so finished the application on my phone. I was turned down for an account anyway but found the process painful !
  • I had the same "selfie" issue during application as I have no camera attached to my PC.  The application did state something like "a link has been emailed to you so that you can upload a photo and continue the application" but said email never arrived.  I too resumed the application on my phone in order to take a selfie.

Thanks for info, converting PDF to jpg was the solution, I had to dig out now ancient Logitech 9000 Webcam and download the software in order to take selfie

I had a server time out message at the end after acceptance, so had to call customer services to check the account was there and get the details.

I note the terms are more strict on what constitutes a debit card spend than others, so it may have to be genuine purchase transactions. I’m not sure whether credit card payments or NS&I may count. https://metrobankinvite.co.uk/images/Refer-a-Friend-T&C.pdf

I might just separate out my bananas at the self checkout at Sainsburys and put them all through individually
