The legal point made by DTD and the others is, in their I believe incorrect opinion, that it is illegal to own and drive a vehicle that is not registered to you. Their quote is clearly nothing to do with selling pre-reg cars before a certain time, that is purely a contractual matter between the dealer and manufacturer over getting cheap demo models which they must use for a certain amount of time driven around by their sales team to promote the brand then sell on at a tidy profit. Selling almost brand new makes that tidy profit even bigger at the manufacturer's expense. Owning and driving a car that is not registered in your name however could cause you to be driving without insurance as it will most likely be against the terms and lead to voided insurance.sweetsand said:

No mention of any potential illegal situations there. In fact from the last link
"It’s also important to know that manufacturer warranties begin from the date a car was first registered, not when it was sold. This shouldn’t be a concern if the car is only a few weeks old, but you may have reservations if it’s already several months into its warranty, so make sure to ask. A car sold six months into its warranty should be priced to reflect this."
Sweetsands, you need to re-read what your link says and what is being highlighted as illegal, because it's not what you afre arguing.
Several have posted very not so nice posts at me but I've still taken time to respond to the usernmae/s intially but enough is enough of the crass comments..
About the warranty, pre-reg, you may have read i have already warned the OP about that ie starts day of pre-reg.
May I ask what is your honesty interpretation of the link I have posted and the the 'ciminal' aspect.??
If you can't, no worries and I will stick to my stance.
 Many thanks in advance

Forgive me for not reading the other 6 pages, but if it is a criminal offence to keep a car registered to someone else, why aren't the jails full of leasees?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The link is about having a car registered to an unrelated company. Not the case with a lease car, where there is a clear relationship between the lessor and the leassee1

Because thats not what the drivethedeal judgment states.facade said:Forgive me for not reading the other 6 pages, but if it is a criminal offence to keep a car registered to someone else, why aren't the jails full of leasees?
It is a potential offence not to register a vehicle to the rightful registered keeper as soon as a sale or transfer takes place.
A lease is an agreement to rent a car from a registered keeper, which is the leasing company.
You can't lease a car from a third party leasing company and have the dealer as the registered keeper.0

What's the offence? The owner, person keeping and registered keeper need not be the same person.daveyjp said:

The offence is all about DVLA / Police being unable to send fines to the correct person.43COffence of using an incorrectly registered vehicle(1)A person is guilty of an offence if, on a public road or in a public place, he uses a vehicle to which subsection (2) applies and in respect of which— (a)the name and address of the keeper are not recorded in the register, or (b)any of the particulars recorded in the register are incorrect. 0
