Completely and utterly wrong. The person leasing the vehicle is never the owner, and are often not the registered keeper either. (They may be the keeper - otherwise known as the Hirer - but not the registered keeper).CarMad95 said:For example, I beleive when you lease a car you are the legal owner but the company you lease it from is the registered keeper.0 -
CarMad95 said:That will be because there is a difference between registered owner (I guess the technical term would be registered keeper) and legal owner. For example, I beleive when you lease a car you are the legal owner but the company you lease it from is the registered keeper. That document also says it's not proof of ownership, doesn't mean that it isn't a form of ownership, just that the document isn't proof of it.It's also why insurance companies ask whi is the legal owner and who is the registered keeper. They are not always the same answer. When you lease a car, you are NOT the owner. The lease company is the owner, and also (usually) the registered keeper. You are merely renting the car from them. To become the owner of anything you have to buy it.What exactly do you mean by "a form of ownership"?

Leasing a vehicle is essentially the renting a vehicle from the leasing company and then handing the vehicle back when your contract comes to an end. The finance company has the financial interest in the car and, therefore, is the owner and the registered keeper of the vehicle throughout the contract hire agreement.

Great response! Indeed, you don't own the car on a lease, so I am confused as well what on earht the poster mean by saying it was a "form of ownership"![Deleted User] said:CarMad95 said:That will be because there is a difference between registered owner (I guess the technical term would be registered keeper) and legal owner.
