Looking for area, property reccomendations.

Me and my other half are first time buyers, we're looking to move to the South (Devon, Cornwall area) and the time frame is based on what properties we find.
Preferably a house, with 3 bedrooms and a garden but with our budget and such picky requirements we can only dream. I don't mind the idea of an apartment/flat but i'm struggling to find one with any of my filters! I want a spacious modern looking apartment with a fairly good view, i'd like it to be in a high apartment block with lots of others and quite modern and basic with room for personalisation but everywhere I've looked (rightmove, onthemarket etc) there are no apartments/flats of any type in these areas, I don't know if i'm going mad or if I just haven't searched properly.
If anyone knows any that are being built, newly built etc within some of my filters it'd be great to know! We're looking at moving in the next 12 months, but depending on the property and price could be sooner or later. Thanks

If any are being newly built they will be plastered all over RM already, put a "new build" filter on. Or if you want to get in really early look at planning applications for the area you're interested in. Have you called every estate agent in the area and made a good connection there? You'll get more luck that way via a national forum, surely?0 -

In op's previous thread re moving from North to South, budget was stated as £160,000. Looks upwards towards a huge pie (preferably rhubarb with lashings of custard) in the sky

Might have to accept a downstairs bathroom, but even a pleasant small garden is do-able.Perhaps the 'picky requirements' are the stumbling block?3

I'm picky to a certain degree, downstairs bathrooms and smaller gardens don't bother me as much it's more so the area and the potential to make the house look more modern, a rather strange one is kitchen size, I come from a house with a small kitchen as does my other half so a kitchen that can hold at least 5/6 people in would be ideal but again if it's within budget and there is room to improve it'd be considered!
Thanks so much!

I laugh frequently when I drive along our local A road and hear on Radio Devon of all the traffic woes on the A385 through Totnes and multiple tail backs on the A30/A38....etc. No problems here.If you centre a Rightmove search on Chulmleigh and make it within 30 or 40 miles you'll be hitting all the cheaper areas, such as Bideford, Barnstaple, Torrington, Holsworthy Tiverton....and several more.

Possibly very south Somerset too, might be worth a thought.
I'm in Somerset and agree with @Davesnave about steering well clear of the more popular areas around the south west coasts.

Ah, yes, Yeovil, but watch out for the hovering helicopters in that area. They used to test them close to a property we were keen on, but we did the usual staking-out and soon realised the huge nuisance they were. And even more important, be very careful with the Levels and their potential for flooding in the future.2
