Whatever else you do start putting money aside every month now to pay gas bill.
Yes, I’m now paying a gas bill albeit based on random, incorrect, unexplained readings I can’t get any answers to.  I have paid what I have been billed.

Raise a Support Request with XOSERVE. You might get a response.

I’ve had a response from XOSERVE.  I asked them to confirm what date my meter was first registered on the national database.  Their reply:

”your gas meter was initially installed on 30/9/2019”.  That’s the same month EOn took over the supply and 7 years after we originally moved into the house.
I’ve no idea how they came to be the supplier for a meter not known on the database?
    So confusing.
Good news is the most you owe is from 20/09/2019 unless the previous suppliers come knocking on the door at a later date.

I forget do you have your readings from that date to confirm start date with EON in your documents? That way at least there is a starting point for the EON complaint.
The first meter reading I have in my notes is Feb 2020 when I first contacted EOn following my husband’s death in Sept 2019.
Unfortunately I can’t access any of my husband’s past correspondence because I have no access to his old emails.  This information would have helped me greatly.

Despite me giving EOn the reading of approx 9000 in Feb 2020, EON NEXT have billed me for an estimated reading of approx. 5500.  When I told them the true reading they told me to double check it because that reading will create a “massive charge”.   I then told them the long drawn out history and heard nothing further.  It’s like every person I deal with thinks “this is a tricky one” and files it in the bin.

I emailed EOn Next Complaints Department a comprehensive list of all previous dealings and asked them to confirm receipt of my email so that I know its being handled.  No response yet in 3 days.  I’ve also Tweeted them asking them to chase this confirmation.

I’m doing all I can.  I just want a competent person to take ownership of this mess 😩

Now looking to see if this may help me progress and resolve matters https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/resolver/

I do feel like giving up.  To what extent can this burden lie just in my court?

For information, if anyone is reading this.  The outcome was that the confusion proved far too much to rectify for the energy company and after endless to-ing and fro-ing and complaint by me, they took my current meter reading and started charging me from there.  No backdated payments were ever requested.  It sounds like a good deal but I cannot tell you the immense stress this all caused and the relief at having it finally sorted.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but surely this was your husbands debt and not yours.

I've no idea and am just glad the whole sorry mess was finally resolved and wanted to conclude the post in case anyone else found themselves in the same position.  I'm moving to a new house again soon and will be vigilant on the energy accounts being set up properly! 😅
