    No, just care homes.

    What's the difference.

I don't understand this question?  Care Homes are care homes and hospitals are hospitals.  Its like asking what is the difference between a school and a soft play centre because they're both full of children!

Care homes are the resident's homes.  They live there, 24/7, often they aren't allowed to leave due to the risk to themselves if they do.

Hospitals are where people go in the short term when they are unwell or need surgery/treatment.  They don't live there and if all goes well they will leave to go their own home as soon as possible.  Hospitals are allowing visitors for dying patients now.

My grandad was taken to hospital 4 months ago but he was moved to a non emergency hospital 2 days later but they are not allowing visitors so I cannot see whats the difference between a care home and a non emergency hospital.

A non emergency hospital = a respite centre? I would suggest these are probably classed as care homes given I was a regular visitor to one about 10 years ago.

We have a non emergency hospital near us and it's hard to describe it really - the best way I can describe it is like a hospital where you receive treatment but so long as it's not for anything serious or complicated.
tbh it's a bit of a white elephant as people tend to go the nearest main hospital first as you know you're going to end up there!
  • Is it an intermediate care facility?

If it’s like a few places I’ve worked they have hot and cold sites. The cold site is where people go to rehabilitate after an acute admission. It’s still part of the hospital. These sites sometimes have elective surgical wards too.
I guess they want to make the rules consistent across all hospital facilities.
Visitors are certainly an infection risk and can’t be made to comply as easily as staff.
Incidentally we’ve had hardly any thefts from the hospitals I work in since the visitor ban. Previously anything that wasn’t nailed down was stolen especially the hand gel!

I don't know what they do where my grandad is but I think they take you to this hospital while you wait for a home care package.

It's still a hospital, so other residents will be more susceptible than the average care home resident.
It's all about risk assessment, someone with a good knowledge of what this hospital does has deemed it too high risk to allow visitors, whereas in care homes they're at less of a risk.

At the end of the day, without meaning to sound rude you don't really sound like you know the difference between the two places - so it's best just to accept you won't be able to visit just yet and instead look forward to when you can.
Hopefully it won't be too long :)
