Confused about switching broadband provider

I've been with the same broadband provider forever and am long out of contract. I have a broadband only account with Talk Talk and I pay BT for landlines and calls. If I went for a new broadband + calls package I understand that the new provider would contact Talk Talk about the broadband. But what happens about the landline and calls? Does the new provider contact BT as well or do I have to do that? I don't want to end up paying for landlines and calls twice.

fwiw, I previously had landline with BT and fibre with Plusnet. In 2016, I recall I simply raised an order through Plusnet to move my landline to them. I don't recall having to inform BT of my decision, and I did receive the automated 'Sorry you are leaving' letter from BT.
This may help:

Thanks for the advice. The ofcom guide looks really useful.0
