BT FTTP

I'm just about to move into a new house. It has Virgin Media & VDSL availability but only 70Mbps on VDSL. I am sick of Virgin Media. They usually have terrible customer service and their service has been non-existent during the pandemic. I want to go with VDSL but 70Mbps is limiting compared to 350Mbps on Virgin. Plusnet have told me that BT should be able to offer me 300Mbps on FTTP. They even shared a screenshot which shows availability of this at the address. FTTP is not available on the BT website and, when I called BT, they were not able to offer FTTP. Does anyone have any tips how to get around this? I don't want to sign up with BT on the off-chance because they are £5 more expensive than my best option (Now) and have 24 month tie in (vs 12 month for Now).

If BT can't offer FTTP then you'll have a problem getting anyone else to provide it. All you can do is keep checking for availability. Try the OpenReach availability checker - https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fibre-first#FibrecheckerX to see if it really is available and not just a figment of someones imagination.
Even after all the fibre has been installed and jointed it still needs to be commissioned and tested and the equipment has to be installed into the exchanges so although some companies might get a "heads up" about it's future availability it still takes a fair amount of time t get it all up and running and there is only a small handful of suppliers who are offering it at the momentNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
BT not able to offer means FTTP cabling does not exist yet.Or a mistake by PN .Check BT website Fibre 100 Fibre 250.Now don't have FTTP

Is your new house a brand new house ( New build ) ?, if it is the chances are FTTP will be available, if it’s just a new house to you, rather than asking an ISP to check availability, you could check yourself

Don’t be fooled by FTTPod , that’s a product available from some ISP’s , ( not BT Consumer) where if you are prepared to pay the network build costs, they will provide FTTP to your home from the same aggregation node the FTTC uses, but this can be expensive depending on the amount of ‘work’ required.

Have a look on the telegraph poles near you. Do they have a label saying fibre overhead?
