brake pads 70% worn at 15.5k miles? 2018 Mazda3
Hi,
Had the car from new and took it in to the dealership today for its second service at 15.5k miles/24 months (£290). Dealership advised that the front brake pads are 70% worn and would be £140 to change. Did a quick google and £140 seemed reasonable and I didn't want to take another afternoon of work so told them to go ahead. But thinking about it now, it seems that I didn't get a lot of mileage out them! Did I change them too soon and/or have they worn prematurely? Most of the miles will have been from my (pre-covid) 13 mile each way commute to another town via an A road.
Thanks in advance.

Never mind %ages, how thick was the material left on your old ones?0

I imagine it depends on your braking! Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!0

Brake pads wear depends on how you drive. Very variable.0

thanks all. guess it's not unreasonable. don't drive particularly aggressively but there are a lot of stops.0

They didn't try to flog the discs as well?0

Dear OP
You should have asked about the thickness of the pads.
Importantly, brakes wear out at different rates depending on your driving.
I recall many years ago, my OH bought me a small car a run=a=round and to use at work as I visited people in their homes. To cut a long story short, I'd covered nearly 40k miles in 4 years and at the MOT the tester said to me the pads may need changing at 6 months... He was astonished when I told him it was the orginal pair - it was a manual and I drove gently and according to the tester most pads wore out at 15/20k max miles.
One of my nephews has a BMW M3 and he drives like the sterotypical bmw driver right back up the rear, F1 flying starts and bangs on the brakes his pads are changed every year/14 months as well as tyres so it depends on hhow you drive.
Be gently, anticipate the situ ahead, save brakes, save treys, save suspensions, save fuel and less accidents or if you are in one, it's much lighter.

I wonder if the nephew once had an RX8...3

I'd say they've worn out prematurely, you can get 50,000 miles out of a set of pads without difficultly.

70% worn doesn't actually mean anything.I would also have thought on such a new car it would have a low pad warning, either an actual light or pads which squeal once they get too low.0
