Wife has iphone 5s (payg - no data away from home) I have iphone 6s (payg- no data away from home) Wife also has ipad at home on house broadband.

When I text/message her from home  when she is out (my iphone on broadband) My phone shows delivered, but in fact has been delivered to her ipad left in the kitchen and not  to her phone.

How can I send a straightforward text without using imessage? There is no option in contacts.

If you send a text message by 'traditional' SMS it is sent directly through the mobile phone network, not involving the internet via WiFi or mobile data at all.

It's not clear how you are sending these messages, but there's a simple way to send an SMS on any phone. Sorry I can't help you with iPhone, others surely can if you can't see how.

  • Settings - messages - make sure iMessage is set to off.

    should sort it

  • You could always use WhatsApp instead.

But they both have "(payg - no data away from home)", so that wouldn't be much use!  😉

Might be worth installing an additional SMS only app but not setting it to default or to show notifications. Then when you want to send a traditional SMS just use that instead of the default imessage app. Then you won't have to remember to turn settings on/off each time.
