New home corner

hi eveyone.
We have sold our house (stc) and we have decided on a new build to take advantage of the help to buy.
Problem we have is we must buy a home that is ready by December/January so we have very little choice. Only one we are happy to go for is a 3 bed detached on a corner plot. This home is at the front of the development.
My concern is being on the corner. The garden wall runs by the side of the pavement. Wall will be 6ft pavement side and 7 foot in the garden because of the garden being staggered. This shouldn’t receive much pedestrians or traffic because there’s only 8 other houses on this section. we are just worried about burglary, leaving the french doors open and the kids being in the garden.
Has anyone had experience of this or think this is a bad idea?
Never lived in a house on the corner so have no idea.
Thanks in advance!
Please no suggestions about other houses or older houses as we have made our mind up and it’s for financial/location reasons.

well i have similar feelings whenever i see a house on a corner plot or even a house with a garden that backs on open field/parks/railway lines. I cannot shake the feeling that any burglar worth his salt will be able to access the home through garden easily. The fences arent very high, you cant put barbed wire and such stuff on top of your fence. not sure if a security system in place, makes such houses burglar/intruder proof0

Had a house in that position, and it was a problem. Burglary and easy for passers by to really observe your movements. We had so many inconveniences and I told myself for the sake of safety I will never buy that again.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

Never had any problems with a corner plot myself. No burglaries - there were other burglaries on the estate but never from any of the corner plots. Burglars would prefer to hide down the side of other houses than be exposed for everyone to see what they are up to.
Much better than being sandwiched inbetween houses.1 -
were you ever burgled? Did you have any particular issues?Sistergold said:Had a house in that position, and it was a problem. Burglary and easy for passers by to really observe your movements. We had so many inconveniences and I told myself for the sake of safety I will never buy that again.0 -
I cannot see an issue with intruders with a 6ft high wall. If it really concerns you get one of those security things to put along the top with a row of spikes to stop anybody climbing it.Is it a rough area to make you concerned?0

Suppose it’s hard to get a tv over a 7ft wall from the garden side and we will 100 percent have an alarm system and camera floodlight. We aren’t going to have small valuables or cash in the house.0

Yes we were burgled several times! Burglary and noise were the issue. The position never felt safe despite always having had a high double brick wall! If any mischief had to be done we were the most accessible from three sides, front, side and back! We did live in the house for years as you know moving on is not necessarily straightforward. But the experience was bad enough for me, such that its one of the things not to be on desired list for a house. Having pedestrians on three sides of house is now a no no for me.luke105 said:

Living in it was not as pleasant I must say!Last year I bought a house and any houses I viewed if it was on a corner with so much access I just walked away!Never again will I do it for safety sake! You also get all the noise of all the houses in your street. When people are walking and talking it’s from all sides. There was no peaceful enjoyment. Basically even if Neighborhood is safe and quiet you will get the most disturbance no matter how little.Hope you understand what I mean? Don’t get me wrong I loved the area but soon after moving it dawned that the same reasons I chose the house were the same reasons I should have avoided the house!Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

It’s expensive for this part of Leicestershire so should have good neighbours. No council estates near it all. Closest is over a mile away up a country B road.0

We bought a new build corner plot last year but it is tucked away in a quiet part of the development. We love it with windows to all aspects of the street and a lovely private walled garden that is not overlooked at all.
We are on a very private and quiet estate though and there is very little through traffic or footfall past the house. At the moment there is more traffic than there will be when finished as the end of the road isn't open to traffic just yet. It will hopefully be open in a few months.0
