Good evening everyone
I went to test drive a car yday at vw dealership. The sales rep said to me that I have until 7pm cut off time to make my decision. The car was for 18.5k as after 7pm the car will jump to 19k on there system. He rang me and we agreed on the price of 18k at 6.50pm. I thought great. He rang me back and he said someone at the dealership sold the car at 6pm to someone online and now it's sold. Surely i had first choice on the car and they gave me until 7pm to make a decision. I thought it was unprofessional and complete shambles. I told the sales rep can he just call me today and find out about the car he said he will do. No phone call and i left 3 messages today and then i got though to him and he said the car is sold. Is there anything I can do on my side or complain or no use? Any advice is welcome . Thank you .

Not much you can do unless you paid a deposit or signed paperwork.

"I spoke to a salesman at a VW dealer, paid my deposit at 6pm... and an hour later, they phoned me to say that they'd decided not to sell to me, because somebody else had just decided they wanted it after all..."
First to put money down gets it. The other person was first. There was just a miscommunication between two sales people, one of whom forgot to tell his colleagues "This one's on hold for somebody indecisive", then continued to talk to you after the other had sold it.
Somehow, I doubt it's anything particularly unique. And you now know for sure that the fake deadline of "But it'll go up at 7pm" is guff - if they're willing to come down immediately before that deadline, they'll do it after, too.2 -
Did you pay a deposit at 18:50? If yes then you may be have some redress, if not whilst I agree with your thinking that it was unprofessional I doubt there's anything you can do. I would think dealers are desperate to sell cars after all the Wuflu BS and are working on a first come first served basis. I could be completely wrong of course but that's the way I'm seeing it.0

Do you have any email or paper trail of a sales contract
Someone is having a laugh saying that the price is going to jump by £500 at 7pm, I smell bull****0 -
probably is a bit unprofessional and shambolic. But I'd be more concerned about the pressure sale of "it's going up £500 at 7pm" which is total bull. LIke the old double glazing salesman "phoning the office for a discount".
It's a cheap sales trick, go and find a more reputable dealer

If the OP did not pay a deposit or sign anything, there is no contract.
OP can always check the Dealer's website that the car is actually sold, or if it is still listed, ask a friend to enquire to check.0 -
Makes a change from the usual 'I paid a deposit but now I want to cancel my order' threads!
Unfortunately there's not much you can do, someone else got there first and cash is king as they say0 -
Thank your lucky stars OP it was probably only worth £16k anyway.0

£18k for a used VW is quite a healthy budget - I am sure the dealer can source you another one pretty much identical.1

Thanks lads for the reply back. I was paying cash and the other person was finance and it says reserved now on the website as it says sale is going through. It was on auto trader for 18.5k and then after 7pm did went to 19k on auto trader. It was weird how it can jump 500 quid. Doesn't matter hope fully with the new reg coming out soon the previous years will be abit cheaper soon.0
