Ferry doesn't count for exemption from quarantine as you leave your car and mix with others on the boat.
travel has to be by  Euro tunnel.

I see. I still think it is ludicrous though and everyone can just claim they have come from Italy.

anyone can claim anything. It’s partly your own honesty and morals. How would you feel if you hadn’t quarantined when you should have and subsequently passed corona onto someone‘s elderly relative?

Also if you did get corona and were asked for your locations over the last 14 days, would you admit you had been somewhere where you should have isolated?

I assume you didnt read my very first 6 words in this thread? I am not disagreeing with you.

Thanks all for the useful discussion. I hadn't realised the distinction between Eurotunnel and ferries (we're taking the ferry). And we are coming from Spain, so we shall have to isolate anyway, unless Spain comes off the list in the next month before we go (unlikely).
