Driving through France

I understand that it's ok to transit through France without leaving your vehicle and so avoid quarantine on return to the UK. But it's impossible with most vehicles to drive the length of France, from Spain to the Channel ports, without re-fuelling once. Is it ok to do a self service re-fuel, i.e. without contact with other people, and avoid the quarantine rule?

If you are travelling by ferry the exemption doesn't apply anyway, only if you are on Eurotunnel. Frankly, the exemption is ludicrous anyway as it is impossible to check whether you have come into contact with anyone. Spain

You have to quarantine if you have been to Spain anyway, so the question of whether you can transit through France without stopping is moot.

The ludicrousness of the rules isn't what's being questioned to be fair. I've just travelled home from Gibraltar, sat in the row behind me were a family from Spain, who were quaranting on their return, but I do not have to quarantine as I didn't enter Spain.
If you don't stop at all and go straight to the Eurotunnel then I think you are OK. Not sure whether a fuel stop with gloves and masks would negate that.

Other than a sense of morality, what is stopping that family just saying they were in Gibraltar for a week or two? I suspect absolutely nothing.

As for the OP,  as per other contributors, you are coming from Spain so its a moot question you are asking anyway.

Seriously how is anyone ever going to find out if you did stop in France unless you had one of those telemetry boxes for Insurance purposes ?

It is irrelevant anyway, he is coming from Spain. But yes nobody would know.

Anyway, l suspect the term "transit through France" means in an airport, is it actually stated anywhere that someone can, lets say, drive from Italy to Dover, get on a ferry, and then get out of the 14 day thing?

It was on one of the televised corona government updates. That specific question was asked, may be on YouTube somewhere. Not sure if it made it to the webpages, but the advice was that it’s ok if you are not stopping anywhere where you could meet anyone and going on the euro tunnel and remain in your car.

Interesting, if absurd. Everyone getting a ferry into Dover at the moment could just claim they drove through France from Switzerland (?) or Italy and there is no way the UK authorities could seemingly prove it one way or another.
