[Renting] - Question concerning haggling!

So I know you can haggle and pay less for rent that advertised. What percentage is a REASONABLE offer to have off monthly payments.
I'm looking around the £400-£500 PCM area.
Oh, and has this recent blip in the market going to make landlords rent flats a little bit cheaper??

I don't think haggling on rent is as common place as haggling on a property purchase but I do believe if there is a reason to haggle you should...
a) the property has been on the market for a fair amount of time
or
b) you can offer something to the landlord to make him/her want to give you a deduction such as payment upfront for 6 months or and extended lease term.
We did b with our Landlord and got 10% off our property....almost 4 years later we are still here and very happy.0 -
Where are you planning to live?
Have you checked rightmove for prices?
It's hard to haggle at the bottom end, but it's possible to haggle midrange properties down if you can find examples of good, cheaper places.
The catch is, if you pay too little for the property, you could find the LL getting repossesed from under you.
Personally I think a good, reliable, non-muppet LL is worth an extra £50 a month easily.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -

A good tenants tale, both the tenants and landlord are happy.
Too often you hear on here that tenants get a bad deal.

Going back to gingin's post
I believe I am a good landlord and am intending contacting my tenants in the new year to: -
1) Ask if they are happy and check there is nothing they have a problem with in the property.
2) Offer if they would like to secure the property for a renewed AST term in which I will not increase the rent (the longer they secure tenancy from me, the longer they secure a stable rent from me). Both are on periodic and I know both are very happy where they are at present
I hope to maintain these tenants for as long as they are looking to rent (they are good tenants) and in return I aim to keep them happy so they wish to remain as my tenantsNutterJack_Toad wrote:So I know you can haggle and pay less for rent that advertised. You need to think a little about how short / long a rental you want and how much you value a good landlord.
There are many stories on here of bad landlords and goods ones really are a benefit to the tenants:wall:
