Hi all
i was thinking about getting a sim-only contract with EE i have a EE Payg sim and was wondering is there a difference in speed between the to of them just normal speed.
I know EE do a turbo speed or something like that but i just want to know about there normal speed because i have just done a test with an EE payg sim and it wasn't great.
Would the Sim-only be much better?

Sorry can't answer your question wrt speed, but EE contract sim only gives you features like wifi calling, visual voicemail etc which payg doesn't.

  • What sort of 4G(?) data speeds did you get on EE PAYG? Even if there is a difference between EE PAYG and EE Contract, i can't imagine it would be huge, ie highly unlikely you would get 50 Mbps on contract but only getting 2 Mbps on PAYG.

From what I remember EE PAYG is restricted to 30Mbps, the Essential sim only plans are restricted to 60Mbps (but not always enforced) and the Smart plans have no restrictions.

As mentioned, PAYG also loses out by not having access to VoLTE, VoWiFi or band 20 LTE (which can impact coverage seen).

Thanks again guys for your replies.
I have done a speedtest a few times today and the most i got was just over 8mbs and just over 7 upload the strange thing is on my phone i am getting the 4+ and 3 bar on the 2g signal.
I have also rebooted my phone to see if it was false reading on the signal but it wasn't so i now wonder if it is being restricted.

I'm on a Smart sim only plan, I often see three figure speeds.

    This was this afternoon.

This was last week before I ported out to Vodafone......

I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
