Company not allowing me to cancel membership

hope this is the correct section.
I'm a tradesman with a company Rated People who I use to gain extra work when I need to. I pay £42 a mont for the privilege then buy leads when u fancy for extra work.
Last month my health took a turn  for the worst and I have to be off work waiting an operation. So i asked to cancel and was told I cannot without proof of hospital letter/condition. I explained im not happy to do that, they have no right to ask me for these. I said i would be fine to cancel next month as understand its halfway through month. But they said sorry we can't. I cant even ring them I cant find a number. No can I cancel dd or standing order because they take it out each month through card!
Where do I stand and what can I do ?

What does the contract say?  That will have all the answers.

I wouldn't cancel your DD as you will most likely be in breach of contract and you might find you start incurring other fees.

Your card provider MUST cancel the Continuous Payment Authority when you ask them to do so.

Whether that is the right thing to be doing or not, I'll leave others to comment on.

    Indeed.

It depends on whether you have signed up for a monthly membership or an annual one which you are paying in "easy monthly instalments".

This applies to all kinds of memberships, particularly ones that are in any way seasonal as there would be an obvious temptation to pay for only part of the year.

If their T&C stated that these details would be needed and you agreed to those T&C's when agreeing to join, then they have every right to ask for them before cancelling your membership.

It was monthly membership, there being very difficult and worst thing no phone number to ring. Think I will have to block them from taking any transactions from my account.

You do that and they may take you to court for the payments

It looks as though you are asking them to waive the contract which you signed, and are claiming that you have a good reason for asking, but then refusing to give them any evidence to validate what you are telling them, is that correct?

If so, why do you think that they should let you out of the agreement? From their point of view, you may be lying to them.

As this is a business contract you have no consumer rights your rights are whatever is in the contract. I would not suggest blocking the payments that is likely to make matters worse

Have you actually read all the replies to your first post?

Not what he wants it to say, presumably.
