I actually wonder now if OfCOM are there for our protection, or the companies it regulates?
Tell you what, I won't be accepting any calls if I have to pay for them.
The expensive NGN (Non Geographical Numbers) 084x / 087x was brought about by OfTEL and now OfCOM don't really plan on doing anything much with companies using 0870 despite the fact its so expensive for us to call and they earn a revenue from it.0 -
Riots in the streets I reckon!!0

If you think about it it could work - seems to work in US - think they also us local numbers
That said I'm sure we would get screwed in the swapAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

It has to work in the states (and India) because they have national roaming."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
What's the point in this?
If mobile companies need more money to run the service then they should charge (a fixed amount) in line rental. Instead, this idea would give them a blank cheque; the more calls you make, err, receive, the more they can get out of you!
With Ofcom as it is now, anything can happen.0 -
I think it would certainly reduce the number of mobiles in the country!0

Seems a good idea though...0

hi gang, i regularly call my friends in HK and China (using my inclusive minutes of cos!) and YES it costs them to receive my call ! i think in China, they get charged alot for receiving my call, i will find out ..
for my family, they have pay as you go numbers for me to call :O) -they call these 1 way charge BUT i am sure they are locally barred -so if you travel to another part of the country you will get charged!
now, just think about it. it is all that fair really like, if you gets a call from someone dialed your number by mistake - it costs you!
oh well , nothing is fair in this world ...0 -
It doesn't bother to mention that the caller pays exactly the same price as a landline. 18866 at 0p/min anyone? I'll believe it when I see it.There is still room to push down termination charges, especially international, without this.0
