We thought by asserting ourselves and not tolerating her nonsense, we would be left alone. It only escalated things.

As far as I know, such 'social' issues have nothing to do with the landlord - it's for the tenant to sort out things like problem neighbours for themselves (eg with police or council help as appropriate) or to simply move out. The exception to this would be if the problem neighb was also renting their property - but then you'd complain to that LL so they'd hopefully apply pressure on them to behave or they'd be turfed out.
It is also not for the tenant to become involved in the selling process of the LL's flat. I'd suggest either being out when it's being viewed, or to just sit quietly somewhere and ignore them; I wouldn't get involved in any conversation - that could come back to bite you. I mean, what else 'should' you say? The heating system is dodgy? The flat suffers from condensation? Don't get involved.
It looks as tho' you'll be moving out at some point - ie you aren't still considering buying it, are you? In which case, feel free to let rip at the neighbour and even involve the police if she's genuinely abusive. The worst is now over... :-)3 -
"They abused me for having music on at 10pm on a Saturday night in lockdown"
I am wondering if they might actually have a point to be honest. What makes you think that it is acceptable to have loud music at 10 in the evening?
As for someone listening silently to you, did you stop and think that maybe they were just enjoying a quiet evening in their garden?2 -
We both don't know the exact circumstances, but listening to music at 10pm does not warrant abuse.eidand said:"They abused me for having music on at 10pm on a Saturday night in lockdown"

If it's unreasonably loud you'd go over and politely ask them to turn it down.1 -
Where does the OP say that their music was loud?eidand said:"They abused me for having music on at 10pm on a Saturday night in lockdown"

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
well, I've seen a lit of people exaggerate and as usual, most times there are two sides to any storyMajoggy said:

Nowhere in my post does it say my music was loud? In fact, I’m very conscious that the neighbour on the other side of me suffers with his nerves so I keep noise to a minimum at all times. Yes I had background music on, in my kitchen whilst my daughter and I had a glass of wine and if they stood in their kitchen without any background noise their side they no doubt would have heard it. The music went off just after 10pm when we went to bed as my daughter had work early the following morning- she is a nurse by the way who certainly did not need to be made to feel guilty at that time!eidand said:"They abused me for having music on at 10pm on a Saturday night in lockdown"

As for sitting in the garden - it’s just weird and creepy! Are you my next door neighbour by any chance?? 😂1 -
I don't think it's weird and creepy to sit in your own garden. I do it quite regularly. I can hear the next door neighbours and their visitors clearly but I'm reading a book and making no noise. However, the rest just sounds like they think they're entitled to do what they like and they have 'power' over the rest of the neighbours.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi2
