Shipped from within UK but saying return must be to China

You chose to purchase from China. Not the fault of paypal. Just because something goes wrong, does not always mean it's someone elses fault.finneyb said:
The Paypal Protection Policy IS useless it gives a false sense of security to buyers. For Paypal to offer such a policy shows that they are well aware of the issues in buying from China. They offer upto £15 refund of postage - the cost of postage exceeds that amount so I am digging deeper into my pocket again with little chance of recouping. Also to return an item it needs a refund label provided by the seller otherwise in my case the seller will refuse to accept the item - I have requested a refund label but not received one. There is no doubt that the Chinese company , in this case lps-gopower knows the system.theonlywayisup said:
Paypal are not useless, you just need to realise that you need to follow their protection policy, which requires the buyer to return an item at their cost* with a proof of delivery viewable online.finneyb said:
To highlight the scam that the buyer has to pay return postage to China, even if its the wrong or defective item Having to pay return postage to China effectively means that you have no means of returning the item and therefore no means of getting a refund for the wrong item or operating the Guarantee in the case of a defective item. The company used Paypal rather than Amazon or Ebay, that may also be a useful pointer to stay away. Paypal were helpful, but useless.Aylesbury_Duck said:

If Paypal buyer protection guaranteed to cover all of the return costs, the price for providing this protection would have to be paid by all Paypal users so they would simply increase their fees.finneyb said:

Yes, Paypal may well be aware of issues some people experience when buying from China and other Far Eastern countries but if people buy from countries will lower standards of consumer protection than the UK offers then providing that the limitations of their protection policies are made clear to prospective users, why should Paypal end up losing out?
I've only ever had to make two claims under their buyer protection and in both instances, I was refunded in full so I disagree that their BPP is useless.
It's something that is provided in addition to any statutory rights that you may have and as such, they can make whatever restrictions and terms they wish.1 -
It is clearly documented in their T&C, there is no false sense of security unless you don't read.finneyb said:

Paypal do not monitor where you buy from, they offer worldwide cover, you have to check to see if it works for you.finneyb said:

It's a huge amount for a return of something in the UK. You chose to buy from China, Paypal can't cover the cost of every single return, why should they?finneyb said:

Where on earth have you got that from? The label does not need to be provided by the seller. The Paypal returns on us is a reimbursement for you to return. An ex gratia payment - something for nothing. They are not required to offer it but they do.finneyb said:

Indeed. I would not be buying from China without knowing the pitfalls BEFORE I purchased. Perhaps the warning you give should be applied to you too?

Paypal freely accepted the Chinese company as a client ie they take fees from them - and not seeing Paypal policing the system, just taking the money. If Paypal changed it conditions for sellers all this would be history. I notice that the Chinese company didn't use Ebay or Amazon maybe they have better protection for the customer.powerful_Rogue said:

Buy from China at your peril !!You're clutching at straws and speaking nonsense. You purchased a cheap (potentially dangerous) laptop battery from a Chinese site. Where does your responsability come into this?Do you want a member of bank staff standing next to every cash machine asking why you are withdrawing money, what you are going to do with and who you are going to spend it with?

Or maybe the selling fees on both eBay and Amazon means that it wouldn't be worthwhile the seller using those particular platforms.finneyb said:

Paypal are a money transfer business, one who has opted to provide some protection to people who use their service.
This doesn't mean that they cover all losses and risks but only those that their T&C's state that they will cover and if this means that they only pay up to £15 for return, this is something that you agreed to when paying via Paypal.1 -
The answer is a chargeback against Paypal - I used Paypal as a guest ie I didn't have an account with money in it, paid by cc the exact amount. If I had had a Paypal a/c with funds in it to pay the Chinese I can't chargeback BUT because I was a guest without funds in the account I can . So much for clutching a straws and speaking nonsense. Go and tell that to your Paypal masters . And the real lesson here is not to have Paypal accountpowerful_Rogue said:finneyb said:

You gave Payal some money and asked them to transfer it to a 3rd party and they did this so there has been no breach of contract or other failure to perform the task they were required to do.
Yes, you can ask for a chargeback but this doesn't mean that your card provider will do it and even if they did, expect paypal to dispute it and probably win.No, the real lesson is to read up on the terms and conditions of the service that you intend using before going ahead.finneyb said:And the real lesson here is not to have Paypal account1 -

A similar thing happened to me but only for about £20. The supplier sent the wrong product so I asked for a refund. I told Paypal I would return it to a UK address but not to China because the company supposedly had a UK address at the time I bought it (which I could prove via a screenshot) and portrayed itself as being in the UK. I also explained to them that I believed the company was scamming people deliberately by sending the wrong product and sent them a link to the trustpilot reviews, along with a copy of all my correspondence with the company. Paypal refunded me in full. Unfortunately they still let the supplier operate and didn't ban them.0
