Same here - bought a laptop battery from China - they sent the wrong one I suspect because they didn't have the correct one, they then make the sale. Now want me to return it to China at my expense   FedEx £77   Parcel post from £24, battery cost £42. Paypal helpful but not able to offer a refund until return.  Looks llke I've had £42 of experience. I have posted on Trustpilot.  This needs more publicity
But you wont have to pay the return postage if item is the wrong one.....they are taking the p155 insist they send you a postage label. If eBay/amazon they will refund you don't be fobbed off by the seller
That all depends on what Chinese consumer laws state.
  • Be wary buying or returning overseas. Someone I know returned at the request of PayPal, after dodgy goods arrived. This cost over a hundred pounds inc. insurance. However the seller didn't authorise the release from customs. My friend had no goods, no refund and the added expense of return postage plus insurance. Neither PayPal nor the insurance would payout as the goods were not returned to the sellwe, and were being held in customs. Absolute shambles.

If the item was bought in the UK from eBay or Amazon you will get a return label sent or full refund and keep the item, normally Chinese sellers will offer small discount then bigger rather than issue refund/postage label just stick to your guns and politely say wrong item/not as described etc

To what end?  People will still gamble to try and save a few quid.  You did.

To highlight the scam that the buyer has to pay return postage to China, even if its the wrong or defective item  Having to pay return postage to China effectively means that you have no means of returning the item and therefore no means of getting a refund for the wrong item or operating the Guarantee in the case of a defective item. The company used Paypal rather than Amazon or Ebay, that may also be a useful pointer to stay away. Paypal were helpful, but useless.

I have requested a return label - no answer, as expected.
  • Buying from China.
Price no doubt cheaper than a genuine replacement battery from an authorised UK seller.
    Payment by PayPal.

I'm not sure how much more publicised as potentially dodgy this could have been.

Even if they'd sent the right one, why on earth would you put a cheaply-sourced Chinese battery into an expensive item like a laptop?  Price.

Why the surprise, there are quite a few Chinese companies that can offer shipping from the UK on some items such as Aliexpress, Alibaba etc...

Paypal are not useless, you just need to realise that you need to follow their protection policy, which requires the buyer to return an item at their cost* with a proof of delivery viewable online.

*they do offer a reimbursement via returns on us.

The Paypal Protection Policy IS useless it gives a false sense of security to buyers. For Paypal to offer such a policy shows that they are well aware of the issues in buying from China. They offer upto £15 refund of postage - the cost of postage exceeds that amount so I am digging deeper into my pocket again with little chance of recouping. Also to return an item it needs a refund label provided by the seller otherwise in my case the seller will refuse to accept the item - I have requested a refund label but not received one.  There is no  doubt that the Chinese company , in this case lps-gopower knows the system.
Buy from China at your peril !!
