Capital One - Lost/Stolen Card cannot be reported

Hi
Interesting one this.  I have lost my Capital One Credit card and I can't report it lost/stolen.
Via the phone number for lost and stolen cards on the website, the recorded message tells you to log into the App or if you can't access the App hold for 1hr for an agent. When you select 2 to wait, the message says "We are unable to handle your call at this time" and disconnects.
Unfortunately I cannot register for the App, because it requires your card number to do so.  Which obviously I don't know as it is lost!  I can't find it on any statement or anywhere in my online account.
I haven't found any other way to get through via selecting different options on the phone system.
I cannot even send them a secure message, as that facility is not working either (at least on any of my computers/devices...)
Anyone have any ideas to report this and get the card cancelled?

Thanks :)

Try one of the other numbers - such as the fraud line - which may be better staffed.

This is Capital One America not Capital One UK, the website in the UK doesn't have the option of letting you report your card lost or stolen even when you log in via the website.

It does however have it on the capital One UK app, which the OP has pointed out they can't use as they don't have their card to register, so they will have to call them directly to report it as they have no other option.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

  • I'd still write then and explain that you aren't accepting any losses from this in the meantime because you've made reasonable attempts to contact them and they were unable to answer.

Best time to call is just before they open.

Not sure if the OP has managed to reach Cap One yet - but there's also the ability to send secure messages via a regular internet browser. These get responded to within a few hours.

Wouldn't he need his card number to register on the site? You're showing an account that's logged in.

Edit: Apologies, just re-read the OP and, apparently, they can access the online site but say secure message facility is not working.
